2009 Week 12 NFL Picks

Last week I went 9-7 and am up to 82-78 on the season. I hit on my lock of the week and am now 7-3 with that pick.

Thursday, Nov 26, 2009

12:30 PM Green Bay Packers (6-4)
-10.5
at Detroit Lions (2-8)
I just can't take the Lions with Stafford and Megatron out. Ryan Grant should be able to run the ball at will. The fact that the Lions are coming off of a big win is also reason to give the points.

4:15 PM at Dallas Cowboys (7-3)
-13.5
Oakland Raiders (3-7)
The Raiders don't have JaMarcus, thus they are good enough to keep this game relatively close. I don't like the Cowboys being favored by almost as many points as they've scored in the last two weeks combined.

8:20 PM New York Giants (6-4)
-6.5
at Denver Broncos (6-4)
This is a must win for both teams and with that, I'll take the points and the team at home. Neither of these teams inspire much confidence one way or the other.

Sunday, Nov 29, 2009

1:00 PM at Atlanta Falcons (5-5)
-11.5
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-9)
This Bucs team has been much better as of late with Freeman.

1:00 PM Miami Dolphins (5-5)
-3.5
at Buffalo Bills (3-7)
I'm riding the Dick Jauron was the problem train. Notice how TO finally broke out after his departure?

1:00 PM at Cincinnati Bengals (7-3)
-13.5
Cleveland Browns (1-9)
Just too many points to pass up and perhaps the Browns will continue to open it up.

1:00 PM Seattle Seahawks (3-7)
-2.5
at St. Louis Rams (1-9)
These Rams are starting to cover games and play much better. I have yet to see the Seahawks do anything other than make me flip the channel.

1:00 PM at New York Jets (4-6)
-3.5
Carolina Panthers (4-6)
Ugh, these qbs both suck... I guess I'll go with the home team and the rookie with potential to not throw 4 picks again.

1:00 PM at Philadelphia Eagles (6-4)
-9.5
Washington Redskins (3-7)
The Eagles have yet to have the offense really click yet and I don't see that happening now.

1:00 PM Indianapolis Colts (10-0)
-3.5
at Houston Texans (5-5)
Fuck the Texans.

4:05 PM at San Diego Chargers (7-3)
-13.5
Kansas City Chiefs (3-7)
Just can't lay this many points... don't fail me now Norv Turner.

4:05 PM at San Francisco 49ers (4-6)
-3.5
Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)
This Jags team is a .500 team at best and on the road, I can't take them.

4:15 PM at Tennessee Titans (4-6)
-0.5
Arizona Cardinals (7-3)
I hate the Titans so I'm going to take them to cover and hope they prove me right or lose and make me happy... it's a win/win.

4:15 PM at Minnesota Vikings (9-1)
-10.5
Chicago Bears (4-6)
Everyone is off the Jay Cutler band wagon, so therefore I'm on it. He can't suck this bad for this long, right? Right?

8:20 PM at Baltimore Ravens (5-5)
-2.5
Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4)
I can't take Denis Dixon on the road in Baltimore... but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Ravens fall flat on their face here. They are simply not that good.
*Lock of the week

Monday, Nov 30, 2009

8:30 PM at New Orleans Saints (10-0)
-3.5
New England Patriots (7-3)
I hope the Saints win, so I'll take the Patriots to cover and hedge here.

Cartman's "Not My Waterpark"

T-Mac Likes To Play Dress-Up

T-Mac just won't go away. He had micro-fracture surgery and is rehabbing his knee in an attempt to come back this season for the Houston Rockets. He's again trying to come back too early, but Daryl Morey and the front office are wisely keeping him off the court. T-Mac however is trying to get on the court by any means necessary, even if that means pretending to play according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen (via TrueHoop)...

So McGrady went through his now familiar pregame workout. He looked pretty good, too. Then while Rick Adelman was doing his pregame interviews outside the locker room, McGrady walked out in uniform, as if he really was going to play.

Adelman had already said nothing has changed, even saying again there is no timetable. Though the Rockets only dress 11 players these days, McGrady remained on the inactive list. Before long, McGrady was back in the locker room, changing back into his jeans and a sweater, and after the game, laughed at himself for putting on the uniform as if it were a Halloween costume.

"I just wanted to see what it felt like," he said. "It's been so long."
Memo to T-Mac: Please just stay away until you're healthy. Then try your hardest so we can get the most value for you in a trade. Hopefully then we can wipe our hands of you.

2009 NFL Week 11 Picks

Last week I went 8-7 and am now 73-71 on the season. I didn't hit on my lock of the week and am now 6-3 with that pick.

Thursday, Nov 19, 2009

8:20 PM at Carolina Panthers (4-5)
-3.5
Miami Dolphins (4-5)
I just can't take the Dolphins to cover after their loss of Ronnie Brown. He was their everything and now they might have to put the ball in the hands of Chad Henne.

Sunday, Nov 22, 2009

1:00 PM at Detroit Lions (1-8)
-3.5
Cleveland Browns (1-8)
This one will be ugly and I hope the Lions win, that's why I'm taking Browns here. No matter what happens, I'll get something out of it.

1:00 PM at Green Bay Packers (5-4)
-6.5
San Francisco 49ers (4-5)
I like effort the Packers put up against the Cowboys and just don't see Alex Smith doing much against that secondary.

1:00 PM Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3)
-9.5
at Kansas City Chiefs (2-7)
With the suspension of Dwayne Bowe, the Chiefs are down to Chris Chambers as one of their few passing weapons. I know the Steelers will be without Polamalu, but the Chiefs can't exploit that.

1:00 PM at Dallas Cowboys (6-3)
-11.5
Washington Redskins (3-6)
This Redskins defense is pretty good and the loss of Portis actually helps this offense. I was starting to get on the Cowboys bandwagon last week, but I was quickly thrown off. Why did I ever trust in Wade Phillips?

1:00 PM at New York Giants (5-4)
-6.5
Atlanta Falcons (5-4)
The Giants are broken right now and I'm not sure when they'll get things fixed. I think Ryan has a good day against their secondary that has been exposed in the past.

1:00 PM New Orleans Saints (9-0)
-11.5
at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-8)
The Saints could do no wrong early in the season, but are starting to show cracks in the past few weeks. The Bucs, on the other hand, are starting to get better and better with Josh Freeman. I wouldn't be totally surprised if the Saints lost because they will lay an egg sooner or later.

1:00 PM at Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4)
-8.5
Buffalo Bills (3-6)
Dick Jauron got fired, so therefore the Bills can only get better.

1:00 PM at Baltimore Ravens (5-4)
-0.5
Indianapolis Colts (9-0)
Everyone is taking the Colts here, so I'll take the Ravens.

1:00 PM at Minnesota Vikings (8-1)
-11.5
Seattle Seahawks (3-6)
At home the Vikings are great so I'm going to lay the points. Brett Favre is making me eat my words and I hate it.

4:05 PM Arizona Cardinals (6-3)
-8.5
at St. Louis Rams (1-8)
The Rams showed me something last week with their play against the Saints. The public is also largely on the Cards, so I'll take the points.

4:15 PM San Diego Chargers (6-3)
-2.5
at Denver Broncos (6-3)
These are two teams going in opposite directions and I don't see that stopping now. Of course going with Norv Turner is never a good bet.
*Lock of the week

4:15 PM Cincinnati Bengals (7-2)
-9.5
at Oakland Raiders (2-7)
I know the Raiders are terrible, but they've finally pulled JaMarcus Russell. That's got to count for something right? More importantly, I expect the Bengals to come back down to Earth after their big win last week against the Steelers.

4:15 PM at New England Patriots (6-3)
-10.5
New York Jets (4-5)
The Jets have the advantage of Revis and I see them being able to control the clock with their run game just enough to keep it close.

8:20 PM Philadelphia Eagles (5-4)
-3.5
at Chicago Bears (4-5)
Raise your hand if you want to have stock in Jay Cutler right now. I've even see him glossed as Jay McNown... it's that bad.

Monday, Nov 23, 2009

8:30 PM at Houston Texans (5-4)
-4.5
Tennessee Titans (3-6)
This is a true rivalry game and the Texans know they must win this one if they're going to be in the playoff race. If they lose this game, they'll be bashed hard in Houston and be reminded of how the passed on Vince Young, even if they did make the right decision.

Ron-Ron Is Still Crazier Than a Bag of Angel Dust

This is an excerpt from an interview Ron Artest did with Carmichael Dave from KHTK in Sacramento...
Well what happened was…obviously I didn’t know his shoe would come off that’s the first thing conservative reporters. I didn’t know his shoe was gonna come off. I don’t speak to his feet so I don’t know what his feet are thinking, I don’t know what his toes are thinking, I don’t know what he’s thinking. Then his shoe comes off and I’m like okay a shoe is not supposed to be on the basketball court without somebody standing inside of it. So I said alright, I’m just gonna buy me some time. I really didn’t know whose shoe it was, but I said it has to be one of the player’s shoe. As soon as I toss it off the court, not throw into the stands which some people said, it’ll buy me some time. What happens is I come back down, Trevor is trying to put his shoe on and I politely hit a three in his face.
And this gem...
Still the same guy I’ve always been so it really doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is that I’m doing what I feel is right. I look at it like this from a deeper standpoint, even Jesus got lynched and how bad of a guy was he? He was a great guy. If it can happen to him, it definitely can happen to me you know. I don’t get upset when people bad mouth me.
The rest is here... Sports Radio Interviews.

2009 NFL Week 10 Picks

That's your season Packers fans... Aaron Rodgers holding on to the ball too long and then taking his 97th sack that day. Good thing I picked Rodgers as my MVP and the Packers in the Superbowl.

Last week I went 8-5 and am now 65-64 on the season. I hit on my lock of the week and am now 6-2 with that pick. I'm over .500 in this see-saw season and hopefully can stay there for the foreseeable future.

Thursday, Nov 12, 2009

8:20 PM at San Francisco 49ers (3-5)
-3.5
Chicago Bears (4-4)
The 49ers simply need this game more. They have the defense to stop the already slow Bears offense and can run the ball right up the gut. Vernon Davis is having a break out year and Michael Crabtree has added a new wrinkle to this offense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Crabtree score his first TD tonight.

The rest of the games tomorrow/Saturday.

Sunday, Nov 15, 2009

1:00 PM New Orleans Saints (8-0)
-13.5
at St. Louis Rams (1-7)
Are you kidding me? This line should be something like 20 points. I don't even see a scenario in which the Rams score more than 17 points and I know the Saints are putting up 35 without breaking a sweat.

1:00 PM at Miami Dolphins (3-5)
-9.5
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-7)
I just don't like the Bucs coming off a win feeling like they've accomplished something. I think the Dolphins know who they are and feel comfortable at home against Josh Freeman in his second start on the road.

1:00 PM at Minnesota Vikings (7-1)
-16.5
Detroit Lions (1-7)
It's tough to lay the points here, but I have yet to see the Lions get any sort of rhythm or explosive plays on offense. I see big numbers for Jared Allen and Adrian Peterson.

1:00 PM at New York Jets (4-4)
-6.5
Jacksonville Jaguars (4-4)
The Jets are great at running the ball, they're at home, and coming off a bye. If Sanchez can just limit the mistakes, the Jets should be able to win with ease.
*Lock of the week

1:00 PM at Tennessee Titans (2-6)
-6.5
Buffalo Bills (3-5)
I'm back on the Titans bandwagon now that they know they're not going to the playoffs and are back to playing loose football. The return of Finnegan at CB has really helped their defense. The Bills are one of the worst teams in the NFL at stopping the run and they face Chris Johnson... it could get ugly.

1:00 PM at Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2)
-6.5
Cincinnati Bengals (6-2)
This line is way too big seeing as how the Bengals have already beat the Steelers once and there haven't been any big changes in personnel. The Bengals' secondary is the key to their defense and it will be pivotal to their winning this game vs Big Ben.

1:00 PM Denver Broncos (6-2)
-4.5
at Washington Redskins (2-6)
Jason Campbell meet Elvis Dumervil and his posse. With Clinton Portis out and LaDell Betts banged up I'm not even sure the Redskins will put up more than 10 points in this game. I know the Broncos have lost 2 in a row, but their defense is just ready to eat this Redskins offense alive.

1:00 PM Atlanta Falcons (5-3)
-1.5
at Carolina Panthers (3-5)
The Panthers have a run game that has been coming on strong as of late, but DeAngelo Williams is banged up and might not play. Delhomme is finished and I have no faith in him. The Falcons have lost to New England, Dallas, and New Orleans... all good teams.

4:05 PM at Oakland Raiders (2-6)
-1.5
Kansas City Chiefs (1-7)
I just can't bring myself to take the Raiders in what is basically a pick 'em. Has Chris Chambers found his second wind?

4:15 PM at San Diego Chargers (5-3)
-2.5
Philadelphia Eagles (5-3)
I find it hard to believe the Chargers can put together back to back wins versus the Giants and Eagles. This game will also feature two coaches that I absolutely hate to watch manage a game.

4:15 PM at Arizona Cardinals (5-3)
-8.5
Seattle Seahawks (3-5)
The Seahawks are just awful on the road losing by 13, 17, and 21 points. Both of these teams have major issues running the ball ranking 2nd to last (Arizona) and 3rd to last (Seattle) in rushing yards this season, but I at least trust Warner, Fitzgerald, and Boldin (he should be back for this one).

4:15 PM Dallas Cowboys (6-2)
-2.5
at Green Bay Packers (4-4)
The Packers' offensive line has more holes in it than a whiffle ball. There is no way that the Cowboys defense doesn't spend time thinking about new ways to celebrate their sacks of Aaron Rodgers. DeMarcus Ware could have 6 sacks and I wouldn't be surprised.

8:20 PM at Indianapolis Colts (8-0)
-2.5
New England Patriots (6-2)
I just can't trust the Colts secondary against Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Combine that and the fact that the Colts are due to lose a game and I'm on the Patriots with the points.

Monday, Nov 16, 2009

8:30 PM Baltimore Ravens (4-4)
-10.5
at Cleveland Browns (1-7)
Couldn't this line be 14.5 and you'd still think about taking the Ravens? Maybe a better question is how the hell did this game ever get on MNF?

I just realized how many favorites I'm taking and know I'll be lucky to end up in the green.

2009 NFL Week 9 Picks

Last week I went 5-8 and am now 57-59 on the season. I forgot to make a lock of the week, which is probably a good thing considering I only got 5 games right. Time to get back over .500.

Sunday, Nov 8, 2009

1:00 PM at Atlanta Falcons (4-3)
-10.5
Washington Redskins (2-5)
This Hogs defense is better than you think. That and the fact that Atlanta really hasn't beaten that many good teams and I'm willing to take the points... a trend this week.

1:00 PM at Chicago Bears (4-3)
-3.5
Arizona Cardinals (4-3)
The Bears are struggling mightily this year with their offense and against a Cardinals team that can put points up in a hurry, I'm taking the Birds.

1:00 PM Baltimore Ravens (4-3)
-2.5
at Cincinnati Bengals (5-2)
I really wanted to take the Ravens, but they simply can not stop the pass right now. The Bengals are at home, so I'll give them the edge.

1:00 PM at Indianapolis Colts (7-0)
-9.5
Houston Texans (5-3)
The Colts secondary is really banged up and the Texans are starting to be very good against the run. I'm taking the points in the hope that Schaub can keep putting up points till the end. I'm concerned about the loss of Owen Daniels, but that just means it's time for Kevin Walter to step up. Peyton has owned the Texans and only lost to them once (I was at that game), but the Texans are a team that needs this game more than the Colts.
*Lock of the week

1:00 PM at New England Patriots (5-2)
-10.5
Miami Dolphins (3-4)
Tom Brady has returned to form and I just don't see the Pats slowing down right now.

1:00 PM Green Bay Packers (4-3)
-10.5
at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7)
After watching Aaron Rodgers last week, I'm not touching the Packers. Come on Josh Freeman!

1:00 PM at Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4)
-6.5
Kansas City Chiefs (1-6)
This one could be close, but I just like MJD against the Chiefs.

4:05 PM at Seattle Seahawks (2-5)
-10.5
Detroit Lions (1-6)
What have the Seahawks done to deserve 10.5 points?

4:05 PM at New Orleans Saints (7-0)
-14.5
Carolina Panthers (3-4)
The Panthers have been playing very well lately and I like them to at least keep this one close by running the ball as much as they can.

4:15 PM at New York Giants (5-3)
-4.5
San Diego Chargers (4-3)
The good Chargers show up against a Giants team that just looked lost last week against Philadelphia. If the Giants secondary that played in the last 2 weeks shows up then Phillip Rivers could throw for over 400 yards.

4:15 PM at San Francisco 49ers (3-4)
-4.5
Tennessee Titans (1-6)
Alex Smith vs Vince Young!!! Who the hell will even watch this crap?

8:20 PM at Philadelphia Eagles (5-2)
-3.5
Dallas Cowboys (5-2)
The Eagles are a feast or famine big play offense and I think they get slowed down this game. The Cowboys are starting to play better football, no thanks to Roy Williams. Great trade Jerry.

Monday, Nov 9, 2009

8:30 PM Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
-3.5
at Denver Broncos (6-1)
This game feels like the MNF game between the Chargers and Broncos to me. I'm looking for the Broncos pass defense to come up big once again and for them to sack/give hell to Big Ben.
